Who is Danny Lim?
Danny Lim is a straight-talking photographer whose patience, meticulous attention to detail, and refined appreciation for aesthetics are reflected in every image he creates. With an instinctive eye for beauty and composition, Danny discovered photography at the age of 15, when he first picked up a camera and began exploring the world through the lens.
His creative journey led him to LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore, where he earned a Diploma in Graphic Design and developed a strong foundation in visual communication, composition, and design. Yet photography remained his true passion.
Danny returned to the medium professionally as a photojournalist with The Star Publications in Malaysia. Covering politics, crime, and breaking news placed him in fast-moving and often demanding environments, sharpening his instincts and teaching him to tell compelling stories through a single frame.
Determined to deepen his craft, Danny pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Photography at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), graduating in 1996. He subsequently joined Chezvous Makeover Studio, where he expanded his expertise and developed a strong portfolio encompassing still life, portraiture, fashion, and beauty photography.
In 2005, Danny joined Peter Knipp Holdings, marking an important chapter in his career and introducing him to the world of culinary photography and the international food and beverage industry. Over the course of five years, he photographed 30 volumes of Cuisine & Wine Asia magazine and served as an official photographer for prestigious culinary events including the World Gourmet Summit, Gourmet Abu Dhabi, and Gourmet Asia in Bangkok and Macau.
His work during this period also contributed to two notable publications: the Singapore Symphony Orchestra Cookbookand the Gourmet Abu Dhabi coffee-table book. These assignments gave Danny the opportunity to photograph distinguished chefs, exceptional cuisine, and hospitality experiences across the region, further refining his ability to transform food and environments into visually compelling stories.
Building on this extensive experience, Danny established his own creative company, True Colours, with the aim of bringing his photographic expertise to a broader range of clients and assignments. Today, the studio provides photography across multiple disciplines, with specialties including still life and food, architectural interiors and exteriors, corporate and lifestyle events, portraiture, and pre-wedding photography.
Based in Singapore, Danny works extensively throughout Asia and Oceania. Whether photographing an intricately plated dish, an architectural space, a portrait, or an unfolding event, he approaches every assignment with the same principles that have shaped his career: patience, precision, authenticity, and an unwavering appreciation for visual beauty.
With decades of experience spanning photojournalism, commercial photography, publishing, hospitality, architecture, and portraiture, Danny brings more than technical expertise to his work. He brings the ability to observe, interpret, and tell a story—creating images that are not simply seen, but remembered.
